Fact File Of Mixmag

Mixmag was launched in 1982 in the United Kingdom,by DMC publishing and was then sold to EMAP in the mid 1990's and was then sold onto development hell. Mixmag recently released that their circulation is 26,000. When the magazine first stared off as a newsletter but when the big acid house era came in he editors decided to turn it into a full magazine discussing the upcoming dance events and reviewing different music and club events that have been. Mixmag also features a fashion section and is not only just about music.

Mixmag Double Page Spread Analysis

Font
The title of the DPS is the first thing you will notice. it is bold and it stands out from the rest of the page. The main focus is the word 'rave' seeing as it is a different colour. The only other font that sticks out are the quotes which are made to shock people and draw them on "i shot someone in the chest at a rave". This would draw some people in to want to read it.

Layout
The layout is pretty simple, the main picture is located on the left hand page along with the title. The sub heading is underneath the title and the text is on the second page of the DPS. The layout is very basic but the this DPS isn't the main article in the magazine so it wouldn't be to technical, they are just getting straight to the point and telling the story. the quotes on the right hand side of the DPS are made to shock people and to make them want to read more an possibly buy the magazine.

Pictures
The pictures show different phases of his life and how he turned from a multi millionaire into a penniless convict. The pictures that show hos life are around the relevant bits of text, for instance the picture of him growing up is at the beginning of the article. At the beginning of the article where the main story starts is a lock, this symbolises what the story is about and makes you think how he will end up when your first start to read the article. The stars around the article i think represent the american side to the story and remind you of the multi cultural side to the story.

A Day In The Life Of

I wake up with a banging headache and the ringing of speakers in my ears. I light up a fag and inhale the fumes, it was a relief. I get out of my double bed and walk to the kitchen and see the rest of my mates who came to the rave with me last night.

I live in student accommodation and to be honest it does me and my mates. All i care about is music, my mates and my style. If I don't have style or as I call it 'swagger' then I don't feel right. I have to have the latest in clothes and technology if not then I don't feel myself, at the moment I've got the new blackberry torch and the ipad.

As a student I don't have a lot of money and I've still got my student fee's to pay off but my main priority is to live life to the max and party hard. You live once so why not live it well? As I was saying, I go to the fridge and open it, their isn't much in there but that doesn't bother me. It's a Saturday morning so its cafe time! We talk about the rave we went to last night and we realise what a good night it was, and wonder why their isn't a magazine for grime and dubstep lovers like us. If there was we would know whats going on and all the big events coming up, instead we have to search the internet and hear about it through word of mouth which isn't always reliable.

I don't know what I want to do with my life, maybe a graphic designer? At the moment I'm not bothered, I'm at university and I'm enjoying my life partying and being at the peak of fashion. I drive a black VW polo with a sub in the boot to make my music sound better, whats music without bass? Nothing! Over breakfast we're talking about what to do tonight seeing as none of us want to stay in, going out to a club is the main contender and we decide to see what club our other mates are going to and we will go with them.

This is my life. I love it, I wouldn't change it for the world. You don't need alot of money to enjoy life, as long as you've got your mates with you and you have a good time and live life to the max. That's what believe in and what I live by.

Analysis Of Mixmag's Contents Page

Colour
The colour of the contents page are bright colours elated to raving/clubbing. The background is black which makes the colours in the front stand out more and all together make them more effective, one of the main colours are: yellow, green, blue, pink, white, purple.

Font
The font is simple. it stands out because of the colour and the word 'contents' is in a different font to the rest of the text on the page, this is so you know what the actual page is about and what is on it. The actual language is simple and straight to the point, it isn't a hard read and is easy to take in at a glance.

Pictures
Their are two pictures on the page, both of them are to do with what is in the magazine and what the article is about, for instance who Mixmag are interviewing. One of them takes over the right page of the double page contents, it is of a attractive female, this could entice the male audience of the magazine to read more and want to buy it.

Layout
On the first page of the contents are all of the main articles and exclusives, their aren't any pictures. The main focus on the second page is a large picture of a female at a club dancing. The right part of the second page is of the other contents in the magazine but they aren't the exclusives or one off appearances or articles in the magazine. They are quite small and in basic font like arial. The other picture in the contents is of 'The who, what and where of 2010' with a picture of one of those main people.

Possible Masthead For My Magazine

This is a masthead that i'm strongly considering. My magazine is going to be about grime and dubstep so the font needs represent that, it needs to be 'street' and one that my target audience will look at and think this magazine is different to others and will contain what it say's it does.

I have chosen it because it is graffiti and its simple yet effective. I have asked people who would possibly read my magazine and the response is possitive, the majority of my target audience will like graffiti and have tried to or have actually done graffiti.

The meaning behind "identity" is that everything inside tis magazine will be part of the target audiences identity, a part of them will be inside this magazine. The contents will represent the reader in words, their life and actions will be inside the magazine.
